CLASSE PHARMACOLOGIQUE :
Antibiotique antibactérien antiparasitaire de la famille des nitro-5-imidazolés
(J : anti-infectieux, P : antiprotozoaires).
INDICATIONS :
TAMIZOL est indiqué dans le traitement des infections dues aux germes définis comme sensibles :
• Amibiases ;
• Trichomonases urogénitales ;
• Vaginites non spécifiques ;
• Lambliases ;
• Traitement curatif des infections médicochirurgicales à germes anaérobies sensibles ;
• Relais des traitements curatifs par voie injectable des infections à germes anaérobies sensibles.
POSOLOGIE ET MODE D'ADMINISTRATION :
■ Amibiase :
• Adultes :1,5 g / jour, en 3 prises, soit 2 comprimés 3 fois / jour ou 60 ml / jour en 3 prises.
• Enfants : 30 à 40 mg/kg/jour, en 3 prises.
La durée du traitement est de 7 jours consécutifs.
■ Trichomonase :
•Chez la femme (urétrites et vaginites à trichomonas):
- Soit 250 mg par voie orale 2 fois/jour pendant 10 jours,
- Soit 2 g par voie orale en une seule prise.
•Chez l'homme (urétrites à trichomonas) : 250 mg par voie orale 2 fois/jour pendant 10 jours.
Très exceptionnellement, il peut être nécessaire d'élever à 750 mg ou à 1 g la dose
journalière.
Un traitement simultané du partenaire s’impose.
■ Lambliase :
•Adultes : de 750 mg à 1 g / jour.
•Enfants : - De 2 à 5 ans : 250 mg/jour (suspension buvable) ;
- De 5 à 10 ans : 375 mg/jour (suspension buvable ou comprimé à partir de 6 ans);
- De 10 à 15 ans : 500 mg/jour.
La dose journalière est administrée en 1 ou 2 prises pendant 5 jours consécutifs.
■ Vaginites non spécifiques :
500 mg 2 fois par jour pendant 7 jours.
Un traitement simultané du partenaire s’impose.
■ Traitement des infections à germes anaérobies (en première intention ou en
traitement de relais) :
•Adultes : 1 à 1,5 g/jour.
•Enfants : 20 à 30 mg/kg/jour.
DANS TOUS LES CAS SE CONFORMER STRICTEMENT À L’ORDONNANCE DE
VOTRE MEDECIN.
CONTRE INDICATIONS :
Absolues : - Hypersensibilité aux imidazolés.
- Enfant de moins de 6 ans pour la forme comprimé, en raison de la forme
pharmaceutique.
Relatives : -Prise de disulfirame ou association avec l’alcool.

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASS:
Antiparasitic antibacterial antibiotic of nitro-5-imidazoles family
(J: anti-infective, P: antiprotozoal).
INDICATIONS:
TAMIZOL is indicated for the treatment of infections due to sensitive germs:
• Amoebiasis;
• Urogenital Trichomoniasis;
• Nonspecific vaginitis;
• Lambliasis;
• Curative treatment of medico-chirurgical infections to sensitive anaerobic germs;
• Relay of the curative treatments by injectable way of infections with sensitive anaerobic germs.
POSOLOGY AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION:
■ Amoebiasis:
• Adults: 1,5 g/day, in 3 catches, corresponding to 2 tablets 3 times / day or 60 ml / day in
3 catches.
• Children: 30 to 40 mg/kg/day, in 3 catches.
The duration of the treatment is 7 consecutive days.
■ Trichomoniasis:
• For woman (urethritis and Trichomonas vaginalis):
- Either 250 mg by oral way 2 times per day during 10 days,
- Or 2 g per oral way in only one catch.
• For the man (Trichomonas urethritis): 250 mg by oral way 2 times/day during 10 days.
Very exceptionally, it can be necessary to raise to 750 mg or 1g the daily dose.
A simultaneous treatment of the partner must be practiced.
■ Lambliasis:
• Adults: from 750 mg to 1 g per day.
• Children: -From 2 to 5 years: 250 mg/day (oral suspension);
-From 5 to 10 years: 375 mg/day (oral suspension and as from 6 years
for the tablets);
-From 10 to 15 years: 500 mg/day.
The daily dose is administered into 1 or 2 catches during 5 consecutive days.
■ Nonspecific Vaginitis:
500 mg twice a day during 7 days.
A simultaneous treatment of the partner must be practiced.
■Treatment of infections to anaerobic germs (in first intention or relay
treatment):
• Adults: 1 to 1,5 g/day.
• Children: 20 to 30 mg/kg/day.

WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS OF USE:
• Avoid alcoholic beverages (antabuse effect).
• Stop treatment in case of ataxia, vertigo or mental confusion.
• Take into account the risk of aggravation of neurological state among patients affected
of severe central and peripheral neurological disorder, chronic or evolutionary.
• Control the leucocytary formula in case of previous antecedents of hematologic disorder
or prolonged treatment (and/or) with high dose. In case of leucopenia, continuation of
treatment depends on gravity of the infection.
• Excipients having notorious effect in the oral suspension: sucrose, methyl
parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.
IN CASE OF DOUBT, DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK FOR THE OPINION OF YOUR
DOCTOR OR YOUR PHARMACIST.
MEDICINAL INTERACTIONS:
IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE INTERACTION BETWEEN SEVERAL
DRUGS (in particular in case of catch of disulfirame, oral anticoagulants,
fluoro-uracil or alcohol…), YOU SHOULD SYSTEMATICALLY TELL YOUR
DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST ABOUT ANY TREATMENT IN PROGRESS.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST FEEDING:
■Pregnancy: metronidazole can be prescribed during pregnancy if treatment is
considered necessary.
■Breast feeding: avoid the administration of drug because of the passage in the
maternal milk.
GENERALLY, IT IS PREFERABLE TO WARN YOUR DOCTOR OR YOUR
PHARMACIST BEFORE USING A DRUG DURING PREGNANCY OR BREAST
FEEDING.
DRIVERS AND MACHINE USERS:
Because of the potential risk of vertigo, confusion, hallucinations or convulsions, it is
not recommended to drive vehicles or to use machines in case of occurrence of this
type of disorders.
OVERDOSE:
There is no specific antidote for metronidazole overdose. In case of massive
overdose, the treatment is symptomatic.
UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS:
LIKE ANY ACTIVE SUBSTANCE, THIS DRUG MAY FOR SOME PATIENTS
INDUCE, UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS TO GREATER OR LESSER DEGREE:
- Digestive troubles (epigastric pains, nauseas, vomiting, diarrhea).
- Glossitis with a feeling of dryness of the mouth, stomatitis, metallic taste, anorexia.
- Congestive flushes, itching, skin rash sometimes febrile.
- Urticaria, Quincke's edema, exceptionally anaphylactic shock.
- Cephalgias, neuropathy, convulsion, Vertigo, ataxia.
- Confusion, hallucination.
- Appearance of a reddish brown urines color.

MISES EN GARDE ET PRECAUTIONS D'EMPLOI :
•Éviter les boissons alcoolisées (effet antabuse).
•Interrompre le traitement en cas d'ataxie, de vertige ou de confusion mentale.
•Tenir compte du risque d'aggravation de l'état neurologique chez les malades atteints
d'affections neurologiques centrales et périphériques sévères, chroniques ou évolutives.
•Contrôler la formule leucocytaire en cas d’antécédents de trouble hématologique
ou de traitement prolongé (et/ou) à forte dose. En cas de leucopénie, la poursuite du
traitement dépend de la gravité de l’infection.
•Excipients à effet notoire dans la suspension buvable : saccharose,

INTERACTIONS MÉDICAMENTEUSES :
A FIN D’EVITER D’EVENTUELLES INTERACTIONS ENTRE PLUSIEURS MÉDICAMENTS
(en particulier en cas de prise de disulfirame, d’anticoagulants oraux, du fluoro-uracile ou
d’alcool …), IL FAUT SIGNALER SYSTEMATIQUEMENT TOUT AUTRE TRAITEMENT EN
COURS A VOTRE MEDECIN OU A VOTRE PHARMACIEN.
GROSSESSE ET ALLAITEMENT :
■ Grossesse : Le métronidazole peut être prescrit pendant la grossesse si c’est
nécessaire.

CONDUITE ET UTILISATION DES MACHINES :
En raison du risque potentiel de vertige, de confusion, d'hallucination ou de convulsion, il
est recommandé de ne pas conduire des véhicules ni d'utiliser des machines en cas
de survenue de ce type de troubles.
SURDOSAGE :
Il n'y a pas d'antidote spécifique pour les surdosages de métronidazole. En cas de
surdosage massif, le traitement est symptomatique.
EFFETS INDÉSIRABLES :
COMME TOUT PRODUIT ACTIF, CE PRODUIT PEUT, CHEZ CERTAINES PERSONNES,
ENTRAÎNER DES EFFETS PLUS OU MOINS GENANTS :
- Troubles digestifs bénins (douleurs épigastriques, nausée, vomissement, diarrhée).
- Glossite avec sensation de sécheresse de la bouche, stomatite, goût métallique,
anorexie.
- Bouffées congestives, prurit, éruption cutanée parfois fébrile.
- Urticaire, oedème de Quincke, exceptionnellement choc anaphylactique.
- Céphalée, neuropathie, convulsion, vertige, ataxie.
- Confusion, hallucination.
- Apparition d'une coloration brun-rougeâtre des urines.
